How to read this map
Read through planning/rights → funding/production → music or screen adaptation → localization/distribution → fandom → merchandise/performances → reinvestment. K-culture and K-content are grouped into one ecosystem, without assuming music and story industries always follow the same sequence. Lines are educational relationships connecting works, fans, and cash—not contracts between displayed companies or actual settlement sequences.

Map limitations
An educational industry map based on public business descriptions and filings. IP ownership, exclusivity periods, production-cost burdens, and revenue sharing differ by contract; undisclosed terms are not inferred. Strategy and support materials from 2023–2025 explain structures, not achievement of 2026 targets or current support programs. Overseas platforms are included as distribution and investment touchpoints for Korean IP. Industry perspectives and questions are the author’s analysis, not company-return or share-price forecasts or investment recommendations.

Content production
Screen adaptation and expansion
When a proven story moves into another medium, rights and production risks must be redesigned.
Why it matters
Analytically, screen adaptation does not automatically replicate an original’s value. Licensing can reduce production risk but changes profit participation; direct production increases both burdens and exposure to results. Sequel, game, and merchandise options also depend on initially secured rights.
Related companies
WEBTOON Entertainment
Webtoon and web-novel platforms and IP Adaptations, distinguishing creator-contract rights and exclusivity periods from gross versus net revenue recognition
Kakao Entertainment
A business spanning stories, music, and video. Potential connections between businesses must be distinguished from actual rights for individual IPs
Studio Dragon
A studio disclosing drama planning/development, scheduling, production, and distribution. Work-specific contracts and production-cost recovery require separate checks
Explanation
WEBTOON describes adaptation of originals into video, games, and other formats as IP Adaptations, distinguishing direct production from licensing. Kakao Entertainment also introduces story, music, and video businesses together. Webtoon reader responses can inform planning but do not validate video-production costs or viewer demand.
