Weekend riots and the partial-curfew order
Saturday's cost-of-living rally drew about 55 ten-thousand people and turned into clashes, arson, and looting that damaged at least 3 thousand shops. Weekend arrests reached at least 2,400 by AP count. Prime Minister Lecornu on Monday ordered prefects to impose partial, very localized night curfews, ruling out a Paris-wide curfew, with a map of areas to follow after consulting mayors.
What the local orders actually look like
Paris police set a curfew from 11 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday in 2 hard-hit districts, plus gathering limits from 8 p.m. in over 12 areas. Northern cities including Lille put minors under 18 under curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for two nights, and Nice applied a curfew for minors from 9 p.m. Denain's mayor first ordered a curfew for adults and minors alike from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Sunday 10/25, later narrowing it to unaccompanied minors in certain neighborhoods.
