This CPI Report is Bad for MANY Reasons...
Learning guide
- What to look for
- In this video you can follow the size of this CPI surprise and how rate-hike expectations were recalculated, the super core and item-level inflation details, and the conditional exit scenario built around an Iran deal.
- Why it matters
- It helps to read inflation surprises by separating expectations, the Fed reaction function and market pricing, and to check 2nd-round effects such as softening real wages and the layoff channel on your own.
ASSETCASTING interpretation and review
The text below is an ASSETCASTING author’s interpretation, not the original video creator’s statement or official position. Opinion itself does not replace fact-checking.
The picture should be judged together with tomorrow evening's PPI release. A hot CPI does not automatically mean a hot PPI. But with the war already prolonged, if one assumes PPI ran hot first given the hot CPI print, then a hot PPI could be taken for granted. As long as it stays broadly within the expected range. In that case, today's sour market mood may not carry into tomorrow.
