Chinese Center, Singapore Company: Uncomfortable Questions Raised by Lee Soo-man’s New Group [Deep Soon-woo]
- What to look for
- Follow the discussion from reactions to a new group toward industry questions about scalable production and the allocation of rights and earnings.
- Why it matters
- Distinguish nationality, incorporation and views from IP ownership and cash receipts, and identify contractual information needed to align creative autonomy, accountability and rewards.
Timeline
6 segmentsThe closing discussion shifts from who originated a culture to who can sustain a business through artist-related IP, fan relationships and distribution. The speaker emphasizes capital and business structures that support continuing creative activity. Overseas incorporation alone does not establish that Korea receives no share; ownership, licensing and settlement terms must be checked for each right.

Map Contracts Between an Overseas Company and Korean Earnings
In a hypothetical music project, fan payments of 100 less distribution and payment deductions of 20 leave 80 to allocate. If a Korean company receives 25% of that 80, it receives 20; with related costs of 12, the residual under these simple assumptions is 8. An overseas company does not automatically make Korean receipts 0, nor can all 100 of fan payments be treated as Korean company revenue. Analyze recordings, compositions, trademarks, artist contracts, merchandise and fan platforms separately, listing owners, licensors, settlement counterparties and deductions. Check access and permitted use of fan data separately from IP ownership.
Check for yourself
- Is allocation based on gross fan payments or the amount after deductions?
- Is the Korean company paid as an owner, production service provider or licensor?
- Who holds production approval powers and responsibility for budget overruns or weak results?
Limits of application
These are independently constructed hypothetical figures, not actual results or contracts of the group in the video. Taxes, exchange rates, timing, intragroup transactions and gross versus net revenue accounting are omitted, so the residual of 8 is not established accounting operating profit. This information alone does not establish a group’s IP ownership or country-level profit allocation.
