A game costing hundreds of billions of won: free if AI copies it?

What to look for
Explore where pricing power comes from in game distribution and software subscriptions, and which parts AI reimplementation might change. Distinguish technical demonstrations from practical replacement services while assessing the video’s crisis narrative.
Why it matters
Separate policy announcements from implementation, functionality from protected works, and revenue from profit. Calculate how price increases interact with churn and costs, then examine compatibility, reliability, maintenance and rights clearance as barriers to switching.

Timeline

5 segments
  1. The narrator presents tools such as REA as a threat through software and game reimplementation. REA’s official description concerns analyzing binaries and applications and using findings to write and test implementations; that alone does not verify flawless reproduction of a complete major game or operation without original assets. Understanding behavior and implementing functionality are distinct from rights to copy and distribute original code, artwork or music, and using AI does not itself grant permission.

An independent exercise, not a statement by the video creator or verification of every claim in the video.

Does a price increase preserve profit when it preserves subscription revenue?

This is a hypothetical annual calculation, separate from the video’s company figures. With 100 customers paying 100 annually and variable cost of 20 per customer, revenue is 10,000 and contribution after variable costs is 8,000. Raise the price to 150 and retain 70 customers: revenue becomes 10,500, up 5%, and contribution at the same per-customer variable cost is 70×(150-20)=9,100. But if additional review and support overhead of 2,000 arises during that same annual period, the comparable amount after that cost is 7,100, or 11.25% below the original 8,000. Prices and retained customers alone miss rising costs. Assessing an AI alternative requires a similar distinction: demonstrating functionality differs from enabling customers to migrate with compatibility, trust, support and necessary rights resolved. Identify which customers remain after a price increase and the full cost of switching before assessing profit and competitive effects.

Check for yourself

  • Are the plan, country and period matched, with introductory discounts ending and added features separated?
  • Have usage, inference, review and support costs changed alongside the retained customer count?
  • Beyond demonstrated features, does the AI alternative meet existing-file, plugin, collaboration, incident-response and asset-rights requirements?

Limits of application

The numbers are not actual Sony or Adobe prices, costs or churn rates, and all amounts use the same hypothetical unit. Common existing fixed costs, taxes, discounts, upselling and new customers are excluded. REA documentation describes analysis capabilities, not verification of complete commercial-game reproduction, revenue substitution or legality. The distinction between functional ideas and expression is not permission to copy or distribute, nor a universal resolution of patents, contracts or access-control issues across jurisdictions.
